Ottrott to Ribeauville- Alsace Tour

Today we began riding along the Route de Vin through vineyards and sunflower fields.  The weather was perfect for cycling... not too sunny but just enough heat.  We rolled along through the vines over a few “wee bumps” (which were not very “wee” ) but “wee” in comparison to what’s in store for us next week in the Alps!  We had a nice picnic under the trees before climbing up  (755 meters) to Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg.  Strategically placed on top of Stophanberch mountain for our biking pleasure and to dissuade assailants. It had stunning views out the Grand Bastion artillery windows.  Amazing architecture and lots of history here from the 12th century on as it had been through the Thirty Years War.

Listening to the bells ring out in the villages as I lay here summing up the day.  My belly full of Alsatian cheese and potatoes, and looking forward to the new sights we will see tomorrow. P.s. Apologies these phtotos are out of order.

                    Tonight after dinner..
Biking gear in a chateau...but of course!
