Tuesday: Ribeauville to Colmar vines and skies for miles
Another wonderful day in this beautiful country. Day 2 was a relatively easy day in terms of riding length. Our first stop was the village of Riquewihr-only 4 miles from the hotel, where we explored the cobbled streets and had a wine tasting here. Dad was happy they also made a single malt whiskey -similar to his favorite Scotch but less Smokey in flavor. So that was immediately purchased...and something Chris and Peter can look forward to next week!
Shortly after our wine tasting we had a picnic lunch overlooking the stretching heaps of vineyards along the mountainside. We had a small but sweaty climb straight after lunch and Perrier at the top! Descended into the town of Colmar where we had a refreshing sprinkle of rain that didn’t last long.
Our hotel is along the canal and many more half-timbered medieval and Renaissance buildings here.
I am in the A frame room at the top of hotel but it really gives you an idea of the Alsace architecture. Chris stayed in this room in 2018, he says it was built for Quasimodo but I don’t mind it here in the belfry!
And another great view of Colmar, little Venice, out my angular windows.

Don’t crash
Sampling Macarons! So good.
The tower in Riquewihr above the arch. I was looking for Storks.
Beautiful cycling route
Dessert photo! Very tasty. And an ashtray just in case.

Bon Jour Papa!
Half the group at dinner tonight in Colmar-“Bord’eau.” Right along the canal.
Walk home from dinner, that’s my room in the distance. The one at the tippy top.
French kitty running through the streets of the village.
The drawbridge that was in front of walled city of Riquewihr.
Some stork art in the windows.
My eggplant in disguise. Delicious

Cremants...and apparently whiskey!
Foie Gras anyone?

Stopping for pictures, a rest and to regroup at top of the climb.

It was a lovely day, but I must rest so we can do it all again tomorrow!

Becky is doing a great job of capturing the essence of a wonderful area. Our rides are not long but our tour company seems to like to select the steepest hills they can find. A 7% grade is a small slope by comparison to some of the stuff we have been climbing up.
ReplyDeleteThese are really descriptive pictures! It really is giving us a view of your life on the tour! Love your comments on the storks, jus de tomate, faux grios. You have developed into a very good blogger!!❤️❤️
