Strasbourg with Dad 2023

 

Welcome to On the road with Becks France 2023. I have some big shoes to fill here as Peter usually does these blogs every year!  But my instagram and email will not hold enough images to send to Mom so going to try this platform! So here we go...

After a Day of delayed planes and missed trains we finally made it to Strasbourg!

Dad on the bridge outside the Regent Petit France Hotel.  It is so picturesque here!
                                       Relegated to Starbucks -still at Paris airport in this picture.   
All the bridges and balconies are adorned with bright flowers.   This is the old part of town ‘La Petit France’ in Alsatian dialect. A lot of combined  French and German influences here.  The River Ill splits into channels that dance through cobblestones, old cathedrals and 16th and 17th century structures everywhere you look. 

Dad at La Maison de la Choucroute!  House of Saurekraut! Not to be confused with the House of Chocolate.  We did that the last time we were here in 2016! Waited a long time for dessert of special Chocolate which never came because it was actually Sauerkraut he spoke of ....Choucroute!  A funny story now we love to tell.  We returned to indulge in the local delicacy of finely shaved cabbage cooked in white wine and juniper berries.

                                     Bretz! Pretzels.  It is of the Alsace region, They are everywhere and so tasty!

                                            We ate lunch in this courtyard. Perrier and the perfect weather! Not too hot!
The Cafe with the tastiest merangue and coffee.  I loved this place.  We may return today!

Another picture of our restaurant last night.  Off for another adventure today!
Going to try and post and see if this works!  Today starts the Tour de France! Tune in!
Can’t wait to get cycling again but my legs are stomach are really enjoying all this rest!❤️

    Such great pics and commentary B. Love living vicariously through your adventures. Have a blast! Can’t wait to get to CA and spend long, fun days with your momma!

 2024 Dad and B ITALY TRIP! Took off from SFO and had a beautiful trip to Paris despite some turbulence during meal service. I was holding onto to my silverware and water glass so they didn’t fly away.  Mom would not have enjoyed!   I watched the Bob Marley biopic and Amsterdam...so no time to sleep! Haha.  It was pouring in Paris when we landed but cleared up by our arrival in Venice with some cool weather and scattered clouds.   Our Hotel Moresco is right along the canals in Venice! What a city ...117 small islands all separated by canals...which makes for lots of little bridges- up and over the intricate waterways.   Had dinner outside in the cool breeze night one, just around the corner from the Hotel.  Dad was happy to see a classic Italian Caprese Salad on the menu! And tiramisu for dessert!  ——— SFO-Paris-Venice Sitting room in Hotel, Venice Caprese 1   Cafe Florian since 1720!  Macarons for lunch-espresso! Loving the gondola...

Prosecco Hills-Cison di Valmarino, Veneto- Warm up ride!

Traveled from Venice to Cison di Valmarino (about an hour by car) to meet up with our group for this week of cycling the Prosecco Hills!   A small group this time, with two guides and two other people for a total of 6.  We met up with our Italian guide from Mallorca, Mario!  He is originally from this region and only lives 5k from here!  We are lucky to have him along to show us the local routes.  Also joining us are Scott and Lori, a very nice couple from Colorado who have done lots of previous cycling trips themselves.  A little lunch at the hotel and then off for a warm up ride to test out our bikes! Mt Ventoux from Sisteron

  Today was a beautiful ride over three small Cols, finishing with the Giant of Provence-Mt Ventoux.       We had a scenic, shady picnic lunch overlooking the lavender fields right in the shadow of the bald headed Mt.Ventoux.       We continued to pedal through Sault and the vast fields of purple lavender that surrounded us, as we approached the climb of the Beast of Provence.     Unique in it’s lunar like surface at the top, it really feels like you are going to the moon as the elevation rises.     The road to the top is closed for most of the year due to freezing temperatures at the summit but thankfully not today.   I have done this climb several different times from all three approaches, but not usually in the heat! (I think I have climbed it twice in the rain.) Today was really beautiful once we got to the tree lined shade of the forest and saw The Chalet Raynard-this is the point where you can finally see the Mountain sum...
