L’ Alpe d’Huez! Find the shade!

Well that was a tough one! Started with Col De Sarrene that had stunning views but a little gravely descent, which we all took nice and slow.  Rolled on down the beautiful landscape, to follow the river to Bourg d’Oisans.  There were waterfalls all along the descent and snow capped mountains in the distance.  The Alps are so incredibly beautiful and just huge.  We stopped for coffee before climbing the gigantic Alp d’Huez and by this time the heat was creeping into the afternoon.   I think we all got lost in the local bike stores too long here, so were baking by the time we hit the Alp.

Going up the 21 hairpins was challenging, but it’s such an iconic climb that you try to ignore the pain and heat and enjoy the sights and sounds around you.  It was nice to hear the waterfalls on the side of the road ... I was tempted to dunk my head in one but thought it best to keep pedaling. I’m sure I’ll get another opportunity to dunk the head this week. Here is a collection of photos from the day also including Peter’s! Thanks!  Tomorrow is double the climbing and mileage...we are in for a heavy week of riding! Yikes!

Au revoir!
