Into Germany for a dip! Thursday Alsace Tour-Colmar to Ensisheim
Thursday we biked into Germany over the Rhine River. It was a beautiful day and an easy flat ride through the agriculture fields of mostly corn, soybeans and wheat. We had a really nice picnic right by the Rhine prepared by our guides Chris and Martin. After lunch we continued over the bridge leaving France for Germany with no passports needed now of course.
The German side of the river looked much like the French side but had a gravel bike path instead of a paved one. We continued on this for a bit and then stopped for most of our group to cool off in the massive river. Dad and I opted out of this experience choosing to keep our feet dry.
30 min later as we continued down the bike path ...we came to a part in the road that was flooded with water so we ended up walking our bikes across ankle deep in the crossing! Oh well.. guess we took a dip in the Rhine River after all!
Our wet shoes and socks dried soon enough and we were back to France again. After our exciting journey traversing countries we were happy to roll into our very pleasant hotel here in Ensisheim. Had a lovely dinner with everyone at Domain Du Moulin but tomorrow is our last day of the Alsace Tour which means we climb the Petit Balloon’ . So off to bed for me!
Only 45 miles today
Morning Papa
Rainbow above the Rhine

Perfect weather !Our hotel for the night

Becky didn’t mention that we actually had two crossings of the water flowing from the Rhine River into catch basins, and that we had to wade into the water because we missed the left fork on the bicycle path that would have taken us above and around the basins. A true faux pas. My shoes are still wet!
ReplyDeleteAlways an adventure!❤️😆
DeleteEnjoyed the pictures and comments Becky. Nice job!
DeleteB, what an outstanding verbal and photo portrayal of your great adventure with Gunther! I cannot say which is my favorite photo because they are all excellent and communicate a lovely message! I just read each day now as we have been on the run after similar travel horrors! Iceland, The Land of the Midnight Sun, has left us sleep deprived! What a joy to see what you and G are up to!! Enjoy!! ❤️ 🚴BB
ReplyDeleteLots of pictures and water adventures! Sounds like ride today will be climbing…yikes! Hotel looks lovely and lunch looks yummy! Your descriptions of events is wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteI too like the ‘art’
ReplyDeleteBikes but also the little cutout people stuffed into the flower boxes. Wet feet is never fun so I would have tried to avoid that as well weather seems to be holding out for you as you continue your travel from place to place. So far, another fabulous adventure with Gunther and B, while awaiting the bro and B-I-L to connect with you. Peter posted some nice pics of his journey through. Grenoble too. Have another fabulous day. G
